Vote YES on Amendment 3
November 8, 2022 #DontSkipIt

The language of the current Tennessee Constitution reads, “That slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime, whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, are forever prohibited by this State.” Amendment 3 will finally end the exception to the abolition of slavery in Tennessee.

According to Tennessee Law, you must vote for governor in order for your vote on a constitutional amendment to count. And yes, that includes write-in votes! #DontSkipIt #VoteYesOn3TN

This is not about right or left. This is about right or wrong.

The language of the current Tennessee Constitution reads, “That slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime, whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, are forever prohibited by this State.” A person convicted of a crime may be a prisoner, but no one should ever be a slave. The ambition of abolition is still unfinished; words matter. Amendment 3 will finally end the exception to the abolition of slavery in Tennessee. Once Amendment 3 passes our State Constitution will read, “That slavery and involuntary servitude are forever prohibited in this State. Nothing in this section shall prohibit an inmate from working when the inmate has been duly convicted of a crime.”

With the overwhelming bipartisan support of both chambers of the Tennessee Legislature, this amendment passed as a joint resolution in 2021. As a result, Amendment 3 is finally on the ballot. This is not about right or left. This is about right or wrong. We are United Tennessee. Let’s finish it!
